Sentenar-Yo!

On this year falls the University of the Philippines' centennial celebration, and there had been quite a buzz about it. Case in point: SMS about the sentenaryo circulating. There are quite a handful of 'em, but these two are my personal favorites:

UP made you such that when the rest of the world is seated, you are standing. When the rest of the world stands up, you stand out. When the rest of the world stands out, you are outstanding. When the rest of the world is outstanding, you are the benchmark.

Naman! This is the other one...

For admission of students, UST only accepts the wisest. La Salle accepts only the best. Ateneo accepts only the greatest. UP does not accept the wisest, the best, or the greatest students...we make them.

O-ha. All those time we kept mum whenever those two schools kept butting heads and doing their pataasan ng ihi and kantyawan about who between them is the best (duh, "better" is the term used if there are only two entities being compared...ahem) university; when we'd sit in the middle of the boardroom acting as if we were in a tennis match listening from one camp to the other and then back again to the other...this was our comeback. Big time.

When did it even become a debating issue? You guys keep butting heads and keep competing against each other...but us from UP don't really give a rat's ass. We already know the answer to that debate. ;-)

With that out of the way, here's a fun, trip-down-memory-lane questionnaire that my fellow Isko and Astrokid Marielle shared with our yahoogroup, and I thought 'twas hilarious. O, sagot din kayo ha! =)

Speech (Komunikasyon 3) saka Humanidades 1.

PE CLASSES MO?
In this order: Weight Training, Aikido, Bowling, Social Dance. Patawa diba, parang pa-softy nang pa-softy. Hahahahaha

SAN KA NAG-AABANG NG HOT BOYS/GIRLS SA UP?
I don't. Sila ang nag-aabang sa akin. LOL (Ngak. Ampanget ko kaya nung college!!!)

FAVORITE PROFS?
Parang mas memorable rather than favorite:

1. Prof Alfiler - syllabus pa lang nya eh 12 pages na. Wag mo na itanong kung kumusta naman daw ang reading requirements
2. Prof Cabras - astig toh. Think basagan ng ulo
3. Prof Galileo - sya lang (according to him) ang pwedeng magka-perfect score. So maski gano kami ka-henyo, 1.25 lang kami palagi.
4. Prof Pilar - dahil sa kanya, nagustuhan ko ang Training and Development and Office Management per se
5. Prof Cuaresma - the kulooooots!
6. Atty Frago - tatay ng bayan. Adorable in a cartoonish way
7. Prof Vicentina - mala-Little Mermaid sa haba ng buhok. Pinakamababa kong grade ever--2.75
8. Prof Monsod - Mareng Winnie, laba tayo!!!
9. Prof Magpale - dyosko. Ano ba'ng natutunan ko sa Accounting? Hmmmm...debits on the left, credits on the right. OK na yon.
10. Prof Constantino - uhm, Ma'am, just because Everjeanne and I have the same surnames, that doesn't make us husband and wife...
11. Prof Arandia - aaaah...the color-coordinated shoes, skirt, blouse...and hair.

LEAST FAVORITE SUBJECT?
Math 11, Philo 1, Soc Sci 2, STS, PI (Putangina), and Sex and Culture (panay culture, walang sex!). O, "least" yang mga yan ha.

Sa bulubundukin at kapatagan ng Lucena ba yon. Some Southern Tagalog town, for our Peoples of the Philippines (Anthro) class

Mostly CS. US for one semester. Graduated cum laude.

Andami e. Pa-bibo kasi ako nun. Pero pinaka-active ako UP Singing Ambassadors, UP Tangway, CIRCA, Student Council, Umalohokan, at World Without Wars

TAMBAYAN MO NUN?
Boarding house sa Dagohoy (nuod Marimar with Astrokids), UP Observatory, Chapel (uuuuuuy mabait kunwari), Public Ad library (para po magkwentuhan at magpa-aircon), at isang sakay na UP-SM North lang ang katapat ko pag may mahabang break between classes

MAGKANO IKOT NUN?
Freshman, 1.25. Pag-gradweyt ko, 1.75 na. Shyet gurang.

DORM, BOARDING HOUSE, BARRACKS O BAHAY?
Freshman sa Kalayaan City Jail este Residence Hall pala. After that, boarding house na sa Pook Dagohoy...till I graduated.

KUNG WALANG UPCAT TEST AT MALAYA KANG NAKAPILI NG KURSO SA UP, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?
INTARMED. Bwahahahahahahahahaha

SAN KA MADALAS MAG-LUNCH?
Pag inabot sa bahay, sa boarding house lang. Board and lodging kasi ako...sayang naman bayad ko noh. Otherwise, we'd be eating at the college concessionaire (Nestle pa yon that time), or may pantawid-gutom na squid ball, fish ball, kikiam sa may AS or Vinzons.

MAY "EXPERIENCE" KA BA SA SUNKEN GARDEN?
Uyyyy, wala!!!!!! (Defensive)...pero sa Lagoon at Amphitheatre meron! NYAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Konyo...Upsilon. Cool...eh di yung mga orgs ko! LOL

MAY NAG-RECRUIT BA SAYONG FRAT/SORORITY?
Sorority sana. HAHAHAHAH. Frat...it was a UPM-based frat, Tao Omega Mu. Na-recruit nga ako e. Hehehehe

MASAYA BA SA UP?
Oo naman noh. I'd do it again if you asked me.

NAKASAMA KA BA SA RALLIES?
Yep. Na-dyaryo pa nga ako e. Nagka-altapresyon tuloy nanay ko! ("Tinamanang bata toh! Hinde kita pinapag-aral sa UP para mag-rally!!!!")

PINANGARAP MO BANG MAGING "-LAUDE" NUNG FRESHMAN KA?
Uhm, not really. Nagulat na lang ako nung 3rd year, when I realized, "Whoa! Pede pala akong maging magna cum laude!!!" (na na-downgrade dahil sa lecheng chickenpox)

KANINO KA PINAKA-PATAY SA UP?
At the time, kay Michelle Aldana, kay Barbie Espiritu, at shempre sa naging gf ko na si Dashell Yancha. Asan na kaya yong mga bruhang yon???? HAHAHAHAHAH bitter.

KUNG HINDE KA NAG-UP, ANONG SKUL MO?
I didn't receive my admissions letter from UP (got lost in the mail) so I thought all along na hinde ako pumasa...kanda iyak pa ako nun with the "I feel so stupid, I'm the only one in my barkadad who didn't make it to UP!!"...so I applied at other schools. I passed the entrance exam in La Salle for Computer Science (walang review-review yan, naka-95 ako. HAHAHAHAH) and in UST for Electronics and Communications Engineering. Good luck naman daw sa "favorite" subject kong Math. Nyahahahahahah
